I have ssh root access at a server and I need to download, then upload a file to it. I use putty on my local machine, connect and can do anything. But I don't know how to download the file:). I know that a way would be to set a ftp account but I don't want to do that just for a file. Recently because of some problem, I lost all my server files and requested the hosting team to provide me my files from a backup. They will provide me a link from which I have to download a compressed file and upload it again on server. Is there any way to download that file directly onto the server? I have full access on the server. I would propably first create a ssh connection to server-B which has a tunnel to server-C. You could use bltadwin.ru for this (part of putty): bltadwin.ru -l username_on_server_B -L server-C server-B Now you can create a second tunnel, using a ssh connection to server-B, which leads to server-A (in a second bltadwin.ru shell).
