Download sharepoint link instead of open in browser

 · Acrobat is set as the default everywhere I can find and Internet Explorer 11 is the default browser, but Edge has takes over the PDF from SharePoint. PDF files open fine from a desktop or Shared drive location so that default seems to be right. Browser extensions / plug-ins for Adobe in I.E 11 are disabled so IE11 bltadwin.ru needs to use Abobe.  · Instead, clicking Print just opens the PDF again in the SharePoint PDF viewer on a new browser tab and does not bring up the print dialog. As a workaround the user has to click "Version History" from the SharePoint PDF viewer and then select the latest version. This opens it in a new browser window in Adobe Reader, from where the user can print.  · I have a SharePoint document library. Currently, when I select a document, click on "Copy Link" and share the link to users, when user clicks on link, document opens either in Office web apps or Client application depending on library settings.

We have a user who has an issue with opening excel files in Sharepoint which keeps opening in the browser instead of the App. Excel files opens fine in desktop App from File explorer, so we think this is a Sharepoint issue. Things we have tried: Changed library settings to open files in the client application by default; Tried different browsers. Create a URL to force SharePoint to download a copy of a file instead of opening it within the browser version of Word/Excel, URL hacks! The second instinct might be to tell users to click on "Download a copy" from within the online browser after opening the link sure, because every user listens to what you ask them to do, right. Re: Links to Sharepoint Document in Excel Opens in Browser. Here is what I do to make links to SharePoint documents open in their client apps: 1. To make the link work from SharePoint, the library settings (advanced) must be set to open in Client (but if in classic view this setting is ignored). 2.

Edit the quick link properties, and choose the “From link” option and paste in your new link. Voila! The link will now force the file to download rather than opening in the browser. Select the web application and click General Settings. Scroll down to Browser File Handling, and choose Permissive instead of strict. SharePoint will no longer send the X-Download-Options header, and Explorer 8+ will then not be able to block the opening of the file directly in the browser. This seems to be an all or nothing situation.
